It doesn’t matter how stylish your hair or fabulous your dress. sagging skin is a sure sign of premature aging. now, second-generation skin tightening devices have begun to fight back in more effective—and patient-friendly—ways than ever. leading the way is ultherapy, the first ultrasound technology to receive FDA approval as a nonsurgical brow and neck lift.
Ultherapy drives sound waves into the skin’s top layers, as well as to deep muscular layers underneath. (these deeper layers are known as the sMAs, or the superficial musculoaponeurotic system.) The sound waves cause skin cells to vibrate and generate heat. existing collagen tightens—a phenomenon called collagen remodeling— and new collagen is produced. “over three-to-six months, this results in a lifting and tightening of loose skin,”
says Dr. sabrina Guillen Fabi, head researcher of GBK Cosmetic laser Dermatology.
Ultherapy is the first nonsurgical device to combine ultrasound visualization with energy. “this treatment is the first of its kind allowing a doctor to see the structures of the skin,” notes Beverly hills plastic surgeon Dr. Babak Azizzadeh. Dr. Robert Anolik of the laser & skin surgery Center of new york prefers ultherapy to skin tightening methods such as radiofrequency and infrared light. “i can see the effect of the energy on the bands of collagen,” Dr. Anolik says.
ultherapy can provide lasting results in one 60-minute session. some patients see an initial effect, though optimal results appear in three to six months. though patients experience discomfort during treatment, it’s temporary and treatable with simple pain management. Depending on skin areas and depth of treatment, you may experience redness or swelling, which disappears within 24 hours. Most patients can apply makeup after treatment. “there’s no downtime, no scars, and no risk of looking overdone,” says Dr. Fabi.
So, before you purchase another high collar blouse or “miracle” wrinkle cream, consider ultherapy—all “tuck” and no “nip.”

Press Release
NYC, NY- May 17,2013- Dr. Leslie Gerstman MD announced today that Ultherapy– the only non-invasive procedure FDA-approved to lift skin on the neck, on the brow and under the chin — is now available at her practice, Medical Aesthetics.
Ultherapy is a non-surgical procedure for the face and neck that stimulates the body’s own natural healing process to lift the skin over time. The use of FDA-cleared ultrasound technology enables physicians, for the first time, to see and then treat the deepest support layers of the skin – typically addressed in cosmetic surgery – without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin.

“Ultherapy represents a whole new category within aesthetic medicine,” says Dr. Gerstman. “It is an ideal cosmetic procedure for those looking for natural yet noticeable results.”

The treatment typically takes between 20-90 minutes based on treatment area. Afterward, patients are able to return to normal activities right away, and there are no special measures they need to take.

With just one Ultherapy treatment, the lifting process is initiated, but the effect will build gradually over the course of two to three months, as new, stronger collagen and elastin are created. Further improvements can even appear up to six months following a procedure as this collagen-building process continues.

While the results do not duplicate those of surgery, Ultherapy’s gradual improvements make it a compelling option for people who have mild to moderate skin laxity as well as those who do not want a surgical facelift or want to maintain the results of a previous face lift.
This collagen fills in fine lines, acne scars, and tightens loose skin and minimizes enlarged pores.

Collagen induction therapy via micro-needling has been performed since ancient times. What brings micro-needling into the 21st century is that with this device, the depth of penetration of the needles is adjustable. With a twist of the knob, you can lightly prick the top of the skin to help with topical product penetration or go deeper with the needles to stimulate collagen for more resistant wrinkles and scars.

Fraxel lasers produce a similar type of micro-penetration. However, lasers use high heat to penetrate the skin producing collateral damage to healthy tissue causing pain and more downtime. With the DermaPen only a mild topical anesthetic is used and afterwards a light dusting with mineral makeup allows clients to head right back to work.

Plus, because it’s so small (it looks like a marker or highlighter pen), getting into smaller contoured areas is easier than using a laser. The DermaPen is ideal for upper lip wrinkles and crows feet.

FAQ’s

Enlarged pores

Uneven texture

How many treatments do I need?
4-6 treatments are necessary based on the your skin condition.

How frequently are treatments performed?
Every 3-4 weeks.

Is there downtime?
Clients can return to work with coverage of mineral makeup.

Does the treatment hurt?
A topical anesthetic is used. There may be a mild prickle sensation in certain areas. Micro needling is much more comfortable than laser therapy.

FAQ’s

How does the laser get rid of my hair?
The eMax uses gentle light and electric energies to damage the hair follicle. This disables the follicle from growing hair, which means that gradually over several treatments, there is a permanent reduction in the amount of hair in that area.

What kind of results can I expect from the laser treatment?
Each treatment will result in less hair coming back, as well as hair growing progressively lighter in color, finer, and slower-growing with each treatment. Most people achieve satisfactory clearance after 6-8 treatments, but individual results vary depending on medical and genetic factors. Lighter colored hair require more treatments than darker colored hair.

Does the treatment hurt?
The sensation is often described as a “hot pinch” or as a “snapping feeling”. The sensation only lasts for fraction of a second, and you may feel warmth or a tingling sensation for a short time afterward. We use a topical numbing cream which helps to alleviate discomfort.

What happens after each treatment?
Temporary pinkness in the skin lasts a very short time, and most people return to work or normal activities immediately after treatment. The treated area will shed some hairs over the next 3-4 weeks.

Epidermal Leveling

Epidermal Leveling is truly one of Dr. Gerstman’s favorite types of exfoliation. It is a great way to treat dull skin and a “fuzzy face” leaving your skin as smooth and soft as a baby’s bottom!

The treatment utilizes a specially-designed tool to gently remove the topmost layers of skin leaving the skin supple, and vibrant. It gives the skin a smoother appearance by removing dead skin cells in addition to the fine vellous facial hair (“peach fuzz”) that can trap excess dirt and oil and leave the complexion looking dull.

Most people notice marked improvements in the texture and appearance of their skin immediately after their first treatment, making it an excellent procedure to have prior to a special event.

Because epidermal leveling is non-invasive and does not require the use of any chemicals, it is ideal for our pregnant and nursing clients.

FAQ’s

How will this procedure affect my facial hair?
Epidermal Leveling removes hair temporarily without the harsh effects of waxing and does not change the hair growth pattern or hair texture.

How often is this procedure performed?
Leveling can be performed every 3 – 4 weeks. The procedure actually removes about 2-3 weeks worth of dead skin cells.

Can epidermal leveling be performed with a chemical peel?
Absolutely. We recommend using our non-traumatic peels from Cosmedix®. They are made without harsh chemicals that might induce a burn effect on the skin and are loaded with antioxidants and nutrients as well as chirally-correct fruit acids and retinol.

Crystal Free Mircodermabrasion

For those looking for a smoother and more luminous appearance, this is an excellent treatment.

Microdermabrasion improves clogged pores, skin texture and skin discolorations by removing the topmost layer of skin, leaving it more supple and vibrant.

History of Microdermabrasion:

In the mid-90′s a skin care technique using aluminum oxide powder for microdermabrasion was developed in Italy. This process used a vacuum and a small orifice to accelerate the powder. Aluminum oxide abraded the skin and the vacuum cleaned out blocked pores.

The technique proved effective, however, it had some disadvantages:

Aluminum oxide was left imbedded in the skin and floating around in the air.

The crystals were left in the hair and clothes of both the patient and clinician.

At Medical Aestehtics we perform “crystal-free microdermabrasion” with the DiamondTone™ Skin Resurfacing system. This system is an evolution in microdermabrasion. Leading plastic surgeons and dermatologists regard the DiamondTone™ system as being more gentle and affective than other exfoliating systems, even at higher settings.

DiamondTone™ offers a twenty-first century skin care technology for applying the millennia-old technique of dermabrasion. By eliminating the powders and crystals (aluminum oxide and salt) DiamondTone has made skin rejuvenation the clean, controlled procedure it should be.

FAQ’s

Who can benefit?
Those with dry, rough skin texture, dull complexion, blotchy skin coloring, acne, clogged pores, and oily skin. For people on the go, a skin resurfacing treatment using the DiamondTone™ Wand offers exceptional benefits. Ideal for a special event or as a program for overall skin rejuvenation.

What is the process and down time?
This mechanical peel is non-invasive, painless and requires no downtime from work or social activities. Your skin is free of redness, irritation and particle contamination.
